View Class ScheduleFlowing Hands is a free community practice dedicated to preserving the movement traditions of old Okinawan karate through gentle, accessible instruction in a welcoming outdoor setting.
Inspired by Okinawan and Ryukyu heritage, the practice blends slow, flowing movements that develop balance, posture, circulation, focus, coordination, and practical self protection. Many of the stepping patterns and body mechanics reflect principles found in traditional Okinawan movement, including influences from the islands’ cultural movement traditions. The emphasis is on mindful practice, healthy movement, and the preservation of a living martial heritage.
Today, that spirit of preservation continues through Doug Livingston, who freely shares these movement principles with the community at Constitution Park in Deerfield Beach. By offering regular public practice without charge, Flowing Hands provides an opportunity for people of all ages and experience levels to experience a tradition inspired by Okinawan and Ryukyu heritage while helping keep its movement principles alive for future generations.
Everyone is welcome to participate, learn, and become part of a community that values health, respect, cultural appreciation, and the ongoing preservation of this unique movement tradition.
